Mesquite Grove is one of only two golf courses within the Department of Defense that has earned the Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary award; the other is at Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio.

Civilians can access the course, provided they fill out a base application form that is accessible from the golf course's web page. The civilian walking rates are $20 on weekdays, $22 on weekends and holidays (carts are $12/person).
