After “The Ambush at Lajitas” was completely destroyed by floods, Lanny Wadkins visited the original Ambush site with the goals of re-building the classic Texas golf course. The new course was named Black Jack's Crossing, in honor of US Army General John "Black Jack" Pershing leading the 8th Calvary across the Rio Grande near Lajitas while chasing Pancho Villa.

The resort golf course starts in the Rio Grande River plateau, with the Big Bend Mountains of Texas as a backdrop. Before you know it, the cart path winds up a steep trail and you are playing golf in the rugged Texas foothills and canyons. On the elevated tee boxes, you can see the rugged, unforgiving backdrop of high plains desert, buttes, mesas, and sheer cliffs up close, and view incredible rock formations in the far distance. As the golf course turns home, you are playing along cliffs above the Rio Grande, with unspoiled views of Texas and Mexico that stretch for over 40 miles.
