Furman University Golf Course was originally designed by Richard K. Webel of Long Island, NY and Walter Cosby, superintendent at the famous Greenbrier Hotel and Golf Resort. (The course underwent a major renovation in 2008 by architect Kris Spence.) Over the years, the course has hosted some of the game's greats, including Billy Andrade, David Duval, Jay Haas, Nancy Lopez, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Curtis Strange, and Furman graduates Betsy King, Beth Daniel, Dottie Pepper, Sherri Turner, and Maggie Will.
It is the home course of Furman's nationally-recognized women's program that has made 23 NCAA Tournament appearances and produced 11 LPGA Tour players.
The summer walking rates are $30 on weekdays, $38 on weekends and holidays (carts are $15). Senior, junior, 9-hole, and twilight rates are available, as are memberships.

Challenging course with a lot of differing holes. Greens were FIRM and FAST! First time I had played here; will definitely play this course again.

Pretty course - well kept. The greens were some of the best I have played on. The ball rolls so true. A very enjoyable experience. I recommend this course to any level of player.

10/2008: To give the course a fair review....I will say that the course has played well in the past, but due to a recent course overhaul and re-do of all greens surfaces, the greens have not settled.
We also had a problem with pro staff interference with our play on several holes to which an apology was offered by the staff instead of something more appropriate like a rain check for 9 holes.
In 4-6 months the greens should grow and settle into the course it once was....but for now 40+ dollars is probably too much to pay for the way the course plays with very bumpy greens that are hard as a rock.
Update: 8/13/09
Played the course for the first time since the grand-reopening in Oct 08. The greens have gotten better, but still not there yet. The course is improving so I upgraded a star or two in each category. I still think they would get alot more business if they set the price at $30 weekday/$40 weekend until the course has matured from the renovations.
