Poplar Creek Golf Course
1700 Coyote Point Dr
San Mateo, CA 94401-1000, United States

650.522.4653
Poplar Creek was built in 1933 as a way to aid unemployed laborers during the Great Depression and originally named San Mateo Municipal GC. This course is home to the San Mateo County Championship and the O'Brien Junior Tournament, which has had such notable past winners as PGA Tour Professionals Johnny Miller, Keith Clearwater, and Mark Lye. Since the middle 1960s, the course has averaged nearly 100,000 rounds per year, making it one of the most popular golf courses in northern California.

The course was closed in April of 1999 for a complete renovation and new routing plan. In July of 2000, the course re-opened with a new look and named after the creek that flows through the property.

Not the most picturesque or challenging of courses, but the satff are friendly. Bobby the starter is a hoot. Sadly course ettiquette is lacking, and you seldpm get a call if a ball is headed in your direction. Divot and pitch repair is an alien concept for those using this course, which imho detracts from the value.
