New Rogell GC closed on May 31, 2013. Originally, it was owned and operated by the City of Detroit, but it was sold to a church by then-Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who was later convicted of at least 24 counts of perjury, obstruction of justice, extortion, bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud, and racketeering.

After a pattern of mismanagement by the church that owned New Rogell, this 1914 Donald Ross design is now being turned into a cemetery.
