Ottawa Park GC dates to 1899 with a design by Sylvanus Pierson Jermain, who was the first president of nearby Inverness Country Club. The City of Toledo advertises Ottawa Park as the oldest *public* course west of the eastern seaboard. It also hosted the first edition of the USGA Amateur Public Links Championship in 1922. In 1977, notable architect Arthur Hills (himself a Toledo-area resident) redesigned the course, updating greens, bunkers, tees, and overseeing installation of an irrigation system.

The course is owned by the City of Toledo and operated under contract by Master Golf Management Co.
