Marrakesh is designed for "shot-makers" rather than 300 yard drivers. Arguably the best short game course in the world, it's a very sophisticated track. When played from the back tees, it lulls and surprises all who are privileged to play it. Hole 1 (a beautiful beginning hole) through 4 whisper to you "Come on, I'm easy". Then up jumps number 5 . . . a 195 yard narrow par three to a small, well trapped green. You can catch your breath on number 6 and then up jumps another devil . . . number 7. This one is our Club Professional's personal favorite, and it's arguably the most beautiful hole. Like a seductive woman, it entices and dares you. It's 198 yards with water that gobbles a slight fade; lots of trouble on the left and OB if you're too strong. Number 8, a short par 4, lets you catch your breath. You finish the front side with an astonishingly challenging 189 par 3 to a well trapped green, mostly carry over water. A little draw gets very wet and a little fade goes OB. Too strong is more trouble than you want.
The back nine holes won't let you coast home. Number fourteen is long, narrow and ruthless with OB rewarding a slight fade. Number sixteen is the shortest hole but a "great show" . . . beautiful and soothing to the ego. Then back to reality on Number seventeen, regarded by many as the toughest on the course is not long and not too narrow, but the tee shot travels over water to an extremely well-bunkered and small green. Then it's home by one of the loveliest finishing holes in Golf . . .a short par 4 that gives well-placed drives a wedge to a medium sized green, bounded on three sides by water.
The 19th hole is an elevated lounge with an absolutely spectacular view of the course and the beautiful mountain range to the West.
