This Tom Vardon design has hosted a long string of Big Ten, NCAA, regional, and national Public Links championships. The throw-back parkland-style course has hosted some of Minnesota's most famous players have spent many days here, including Les Bolstad, 1996 Open Championship winner Tom Lehman, the late Patty Berg, Louis Lick, Karen Weiss, and 1993 U.S. Amateur champion John Harris.

The Learning Center was rebuilt during the 1990s and is regarded as an excellent teaching facility, while the course is a living laboratory for the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities' turfgrass management program. In fact, the University is planning a major renovation of the course, encompassing a major redesign and testing and installation of turfgrasses that are both sustainable in cold climates, as well as requiring less water and chemical inputs.
