This course opened in 1920 with nine holes and sand greens, but noted architect Ellis Maples designed the full 18-hole layout in 1947, when he was the teaching pro and general manager. In 1990, architect Bob Moore oversaw a renovation of the greens (G2 Bent) and fairways (419 Bermuda).
Parts of the course adjoin a marina on the picturesque Trent River, including the green at 18 and the clubhouse. New Bern G&CC is a private country club; visitors are permitted only as the guest of a member.
