The Bear at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa is a top 100 course and is outstanding. The course was in great shape and was beautiful to play in the late afternoon/early evening hours.

Grand Traverse Resort always provides great hospitality, convenience and variety. The Wolverine, a Gary Player course offers a fine challenge with true rolling greens and interesting layout nestled in the resort. I find it a great way to cut my teeth before tackling the Bear, a Nicklaus design.
The Bear requires more strategy with mounding in the rough and fairway bunkering, not to mention placement of greenside bunkers.
The Spruce, which is the resort course is another favorite. With all three courses close to the clubhouse, spoon feeding your golf jones is limitless.
Most of the golf packages include range balls and a full breakfast. The Grand Traverse area offers many other attractions including sightseeing, gambling, shopping and wine tasting.

Spruce run's a beautiful and challenging course. First hole is a tough one. But overall is not as difficult as the Wolverine, though greens may be harder. Spruce is the perfect day1 course if you are on a golf trip weekend and plan on playing all three GT courses.
Wolverine has a beautiful layout and is much longer and more challenging than Spruce. If you play from the blues, be prepared for a long course. I'm an 8 handicap and played 4 over my 'cap.
The Bear is the king of this 3-course resort, though. It is the most difficult course I've played, and I've played Crandon & Doral's Blue Monster in Miami and Erin Hills in Wisconsin. This course is tougher. Greens are insane. There's uphill, downhill, and the texture changes from hole to hole. It may be wide open on one hole, with few or no trees, yet very deep rough. And then on another hole it carves through a forest and then moves through an apple grove. Amazing. Bunkers are deep and well placed around the greens. Not too many fairway bunkers. And water sneaks up on you. Several par 4s are set up so you have to hit iron or hybrid off tee, making approach very difficult. This course is not for the high handicapper, and especially not from the blues if you want to have a decent score. Awesome course though. Would love to play it again sometime.
