DEVELOPING: DL3 to return as U.S. Ryder Cup captain
By Torleif Sorenson on 2/16/15
Golf Channel reporter and veteran golf writer Tim Rosaforte reported early Monday evening that Davis Love III will be named captain of the 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup team.

The official announcement is expected on Tuesday, February 24 at PGA of America headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Love was, of course, the U.S. captain when the Americans lost a shocker in Chicago just over two years ago.

Back on October 14 of last year, we told you about the "Ryder Cup task force" that the PGA of America formed in response the third straight United States loss in September in Scotland. And while Love was part of that committee, Rosaforte reports that Love was not "touted publicly" as one of the leading candidates for the job. In fact, Rosaforte said that Fred Couples and Paul Azinger (the last winning U.S. Ryder Cup captain from 2008) were considered more likely to win the job.

Mustang, interesting thought; I wonder how much Freddie's laid-back persona may have affected the PGA of America's decision to not offer him the captaincy.

Azinger is reported to have not been interested in the job a second time.
