PGA Tour player Bill Haas sustained a fractured wrist last April at Hilton Head, so doctors told him to give it some extended rest. The problem is that he wanted to play and make a living, so the injury had not healed very well.

Haas finally got the message at the HSBC Champions, when he missed the 36-hole cut by hitting only 11 GIR. His time off, combined with his love of the PGA Tour's California desert stop, was the correct recipe for victory this past weekend. Haas went 67-63-69-67 = 266, upending a bunch of talented players to win the Humana Challenge for the second time — this time, by just one stroke.

With conditions so conducive to scoring well that some people have referred to the Coachella Valley as "dome golf," it should come as no surprise that ten golfers finished no more than three shots behind Haas. Among the known quantities were Matt Kuchar, 2007 winner Charley Hoffman, and Brendan Steele one behind at 267.
