A Pebble Beach proposal
By Torleif Sorenson on 2/13/15

On Thursday at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, PGA Tour rookie Mark Hubbard — famously nicknamed "Homeless Hubbs" by his fellow golfers — shot a level par 72 at Pebble Beach. His longtime girlfriend Meghan McCurley was waiting greenside when, after her boyfriend tapped in for par, she had to be shown to a special message on the digital scorecard near the green.

The rest is history.

Mark Hubbard is apparently quite the old-fashioned gentleman; ESPN reports that Hubbard actually asked Meghan's father for permission to marry his daughter!

"Her mom had the idea when I asked her dad for permission. She just thought it would be cool to include golf, and we've been together for so long, I felt like I had to do something different than just take her out to dinner or something. So it just kind of all clicked."
Hubbard briefly joked that the wedding would be on Friday at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club course, then admitted that he and his fiancée have not planned anything yet.

Mark and Meghan, we offer our best wishes to both of you. Now, Mark just needs to shoot and under-par round at MPCC on Friday.

But some of Hubbard's fans want him to keep his proverbial "eye on the ball," successful proposal or no:

Not a big fan of turning personal moments into a public event. "Hey, look at me!" Despite my grumbling, let's hope they have a great life together.

I met Mark at the Sanderson Farms Championship. He's having the best year of his career, so why not strike while the iron is hot? I also wish him well in his future both on and off the course.

I wish the best for Mark and Meghan. Too bad Mark missed the 36-hole cut at Pebble Beach, though...
