How Long? Out-Of-The-Park Long By Torleif Sorenson on 9/4/14
This week's PGA Tour FedEx Cup playoff tournament, The BMW Championship, is being played at Cherry Hills Country Club in the near south suburbs of Denver, Colorado. The high altitude (5,400 feet AMSL) and thin air at Cherry Hills suits Rory McIlroy's driver pretty well.
How well? Some of McIlroy's drives flew beyond the length of the 270-yard practice range at CHCC, which prompted this "oops" reaction from the Holywood Matinee Idol: What is on the other side of the CHCC range? South University Boulevard — a pretty important artery linking Denver and the south suburbs. Of course, given that Erik Compton said that some of McIlroy's practice-round drives went as much as 400 yards, the drive captured on video above probably sailed over University Boulevard and into a development of extremely expensive luxury mansions on the east side of the boulevard.
