PGA Tour Caddie Quits Mid-Round
By Torleif Sorenson on 8/5/14
Sure, the guys playing on the PGA Tour get treated to courtesy cars, shoe endorsement contracts, ball endorsement contracts, etc., etc. But that doesn't mean that trying to make a living staying in the top 125 is stress-free.

PGA Tour player Brian Stuard knows this painfully well; he gained his 2010 card at Q-School, lost it in 2011, then got it back in 2012. But playing in last weekend's opposite-field event in Reno, Nevada, Stuard played through a stressful — and bizarre — situation.

It happened on Saturday at the 12th hole of Montreux Golf & Country Club, during the third round of the newly-named Barracuda Championship. Stuard and caddie Michael Lawson were having a rather fiery difference of opinion. Lawson melted down; he dropped Stuard's bag and stomped off the course.

Stepping in to save the day for Stuard was one Christy Atencio, a local amateur golfer who happened to be wearing flip-flips and a dress.

"She did good. It was real nice of her to come out of the crowd and carry the bag those last six holes. She made it easy," Stuard later told Dan Hinxman of the Reno Gazette-Journal.

On Sunday, Montreux assistant pro Chad Munoz, a PGA of America teaching apprentice, looped for Stuard, who finished the tournament in solo 72nd place at level par.

Stuard is in the field at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Country Club. Perhaps he can hire Tiger's caddie, Joe LaCava — after all, he drove to Louisville after Tiger's withdrawal from the WGC-Bridgestone in Ohio on Sunday.

I am really sorry to hear about the quit. Some the people that did bestessay with me were so shocked that it took them a while to recover from the news.
