Jarrod Lyle: C'mon Aussie C'mon By Torleif Sorenson on 11/12/13
Jarrod Lyle is 32 years old. That this Australian is even alive today is rather remarkable; Lyle has survived two scary battles with leukemia. When he was sixteen, he survived his first bout in part by spending nine months in a hospital bed. The second episode struck this past February; doctors had to do an umbilical cord blood-transplant from a donor in Germany.
With encouragement from a gaggle of Australasian and U.S. PGA Tour golfers, and steadfast support from his wife Briony, Lyle survived. This week, Lyle is competing in the Australian Masters at Royal Melbourne. Never mind that he has had only limited preparation due to colds and the flu, his struggle at the first tee-box on Thursday will be mostly emotional: "I'll be crying walking on to the tee, I'll be crying when I hit the shot, and I'll probably be crying walking off the tee. I'll be a mess, but it will be a good mess."As good as that moment is likely to be, it still does not top this incredibly beautiful and cute moment for the Jarrod and Briony Lyle and their daughter Lusi, captured by photographer Michael Klein of the Melbourne Herald Sun:
Whether Lyle wins the Australian Masters this week is virtually unimportant. We at oobgolf are genuinely happy that Jarrod Lyle is back on the golf course, where he belongs. C'mon Aussie C'mon.
