A Veterans' Day & Armistice Day Salute
By Torleif Sorenson on 11/11/13

In the United States, today is Veterans' Day. Elsewhere in the world, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and many former British dependencies, today is Armistice Day and Remembrance Day.

To you and your relatives, friends, and loved ones who have ever served, or are currently serving, our respective nations in uniform to protect, defend, and extend freedom and liberty around the world, all of us offer you a salute, a tip of the proverbial hat, and heartfelt thanks.

"It is never evil to defeat evil. Good will eventually win the day, but it may take everything we are to defeat it."
— The Rt Hon Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965), twice the Prime Minister of Great Britain

"The nation which forgets its defenders will be itself forgotten."
— Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933), 30th President of the United States, speaking in 1920.

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."
— John F. Kennedy (1917-1963), 35th president of the United States, from his inaugural address on January 20, 1961
