Peter Jacobsen Wins Payne Stewart Award By Torleif Sorenson on 9/18/13
On Tuesday, Peter Jacobsen was named the winner of the 2013 Payne Stewart Award. The award is given in memory of the three time major champion (1957—1999), who perished during the Tour Championship week in 1999 in a tragic airplane depressurization and resulting crash near Mina, South Dakota. The award recognizes the honoree's professionalism and charitable support. Stewart and Jacobsen were very close friends and even recorded two music CDs together as "Jake Trout & The Flounders," along with Mark Lye and a cast of studio musicians. More importantly, Jacobsen has supported quite a few charitable and non-profit organizations, chiefly the Folds of Honor Foundation, The First Tee, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Wounded Warrior Project. "It starts with good parenting. My mom and dad always instilled that in us, always reminded us how lucky we were to be happy and healthy, and that not everybody has the things that we had." read more Read an interesting golf article?
