Luke Donald Wins Transitions Championship
By mustang6560 on 3/19/12
Luke Donald defeated Jim Furyk, Robert Garrigus and Sang-moon Bae in a sudden-death playoff Sunday to win the Transitions Championship. With the win, Luke returned to the top of golf, a position many thought he would never achieve again.
"I think people ... thought that my last year was maybe a little bit more of a -- not a fluke, but I don't think many people thought I could do that all over again this year," Donald said. "Hopefully, I can prove them wrong."
I won't lie to you, I thought Rory McIlroy was going to be the number golfer in the world for the next few years. It wasn't meant to be a knock against Luke, I just figured Rory was finally coming into his own as the best golfer in the world. And I wasn't the only one. I ran a poll two weeks ago and nearly 70% of people thought Rory would stay at number one for at least six months. Only 30% thought his reign would last less than three months, which it did.

It appears as though the number one ranking will remain volatile for the foreseeable future. I'm sure the way the calculation works that Rory can bounce Luke with a win at the Masters or at a future tournament. I wonder who will be the number one golfer at the end of 2012?
