Rory McIlroy Wins Honda Classic
By mustang6560 on 3/5/12
Rory McIlroy captured his third career PGA Tour victory yesterday at the Honda Classic and with the win Sunday, he ascended to the highest perch in golf - the coveted world number one ranking.
"It was always a dream of mine to become the world No. 1 and the best player in the world or whatever you want to call it," McIlroy said. "But I didn't know what I would be able to get here this quickly. ... Hopefully, I can hold onto it for a little longer."
My brother called me yesterday ahead of Tiger Woods' birdie-eagle finish at PGA National to find out if I was following the leaderboard. As a huge Tiger fan, he wanted to make sure I witnessed Tiger's greatest Sunday comeback ever. Unfortunately for my brother, Tiger's final round 62 was a day late and a dollar short.

I was happy to see Rory keep calm and carry on, especially when he knew Tiger was surging in front of him. Now that Rory is number one in the world, I wonder how long he'll stay there. A month? A year? Multiple years? If I was a betting man (which I am), I would be willing to bet he'll remain in the top spot for two years. He's found an extra gear as of late and I expect more good things from the 22-year-old in the coming months including a major championship.
