Webb Simpson Wins Wyndam Championship
By mustang6560 on 8/22/11
Webb Simpson finally broke through on the PGA Tour Sunday by capturing his first victory at the Wyndham Championship in his home state of North Carolina.

The Wake Forest product has two second place finishes on the season, including the heart breaker at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans where he called a penalty on himself down the stretch Sunday, which allowed eventual winner Bubba Watson to force a playoff.

The victory was extra special for Webb because he won it in Greensboro, which is about 30 miles from where he went to college and 80 miles from where he was born.
The 26-year-old Raleigh native finished at 18-under 262 and moved to No. 3 in the FedExCup standings about a 30-mile drive from the Wake Forest campus where he was a college star.

"I really couldn't think of a better place to win than here in Greensboro," Simpson said.
It's good to see the golf gods rewarded Webb for his honesty in the Big Easy. It was only a matter of time before he won considering how well he's played in 2011.

Webb may have won the trophy, but the real winner of the Wyndham Championship is Derek Lamely. Yes, Derek missed the cut by a long shot, but not before he carded an ace at the par 3 16th. The best part of his hole in one is it happened on a prize hole so Derek won a lifetime of free vacations provided by Wyndham.

Webb won just over $900k for his first place finish, which is not bad at all. But, how much is a lifetime of free vacations worth? I'm sure there are clauses in the prize contract that limit the maximum or state that a "lifetime" is actually only 20 years, but it's not very often you make money by missing the cut.

You can watch the video of Derek's hole in one here. And then, you should watch the best hole in one commentary here (NSFW).
