Smoking Aces in Vegas
By mustang6560 on 10/25/10
Winning in style usually consists of holing out from 65 yards away or chipping in from the sand trap. Heck, even sinking a 70+ foot putt to win would be considered epic!

But on Sunday, PGA TOUR veteran Jonathan Byrd redefined the meaning of winning in style with his hole-in-one ace on the fourth playoff hole at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital Open to win.

Jonathan Byrd figured there was barely enough light left to play one more hole.

Turns out he only needed one more swing.

In a swift and shocking finish Sunday in Las Vegas, Byrd made a hole-in-one with a 6-iron on the fourth extra hole to win a three-man playoff in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital Open. The PGA Tour said it was the first sudden-death playoff decided by an ace.
I can't believe I missed this epic finale - I am kicking myself!

This is the first time in PGA history that a sudden death playoff was won with an ace. Crazy thing, they almost didn't play this hole. But Laird, Percy and Byrd agreed after the third playoff hole that they had enough light for one more hole.

I hope this amazing finish and last week's finish at the Fyrs.com Open with Rocco Mediate holing out on hole 17 to win adds some extra legitimacy to next year's Fall Series. The Fall Series might not include the big names like Tiger and Phil, but these guys can play too! If you don't believe it, then just turn on the TV...
