The Year of Matt Kuchar

Matt Kuchar's win at The Barclays not only put him atop the FedEx Cup Points Leaderboard, it also put him in contention for Player of the Year.
I know what you're thinking. That guy? The one with the smile? Yes, him. Long known for his amateur exploits -- including finishes of T-21 at the Masters and T-14 at the U.S. Open back in 1998 -- little Matt is all grown up and has emerged as a world-class player.

Don't call it a kneejerk reaction to his Sunday victory at the Barclays, either.
Martin Laird was a two-putt away from winning but couldn't seal the deal. His three-putt extended the tournament where he faced off against Kuchar in a two-way playoff.

If you take a look at his numbers it doesn't seem that far off to hear Kuchar's name in the mix for POY. He leads the PGA with 10 top 10 finishes, he is at the top of the money list, in scoring average and all-around ranking.

Not bad, not bad at all. I think you could make a case for just about anyone for POY with those stats. Even Matt Kuchar.
