Both of the courses are closing due to management issues. Cromwell course only one open today and in poor condition. A shame for golfers in the area.

Not a bad track but the greens weren't in the best condition. Some really nice holes that will test anyone. Not too long either so plotting your way around is a must.
Facilities were good and the food looked superb.
Good place to visit of you have a society and want to stay over.

As a member I should have a bias - and I do this. I find the Abbotsley course to be an excellent challenge for all handicaps, but can be intimidating to the high handicap golfer, particularly off of the tee

The management team have put much time and effort into the presentation & playability of the course

I would recommend this course as one of the best in the area

Bad news first, the tee's are shambles and really need to be boxed in as every tee box is uneven. With Wyboston down the road with perfect tee boxes, you would think they could see the way to go, but ignorance prevails and unfortunately this is the same for sister club Cromwell. There is a boxed tee for the ladies on the 15th that is in perfect and even the 11th that is half boxed is better shape then the other holes. In way, it's good news, because if this was sorted out, this would be one of the best clubs to play at and I would imagine very difficult to get a tee of time.
Once you get past the tee boxes, the course is magnificent and getting better all the time. The course has been removed from The Crown Series as they were putting no money back into the club. The owner is now whipping the course back into a lovely yet challenging course with more trees and bunkers in strategic locations to make holes more complex and requiring strategic play. The course over the past year has switched around so that the old 10th is now the 1st. A new pro shop has been added and though still small is quite nice and spacious.
Side note, I have a love hate relationship with the 2nd and the 5th. The 2nd has OOB to the right and the 5th to the left. These can kill your game straight off in a competition. But saying that, if you took this away, it would be too easy to recover without penalty.
I've been a member ever since I started golfing three years ago. Good food at both the clubs, though I personally find the people at Cromwell a bit more inviting and relaxed where as Abbotsley can vary (just like the majority of clubs I've been to on any given day). The new practice area's at Abbotsley are progressing very well and a needed welcome. Overall, Abbotsley is really moving in the right direction and in 5 to 10 years after the changes have all bedded, it will be pure class (as long as they sort out those tee boxes.
