In addition to being the city's municipal course, SCGC hosts an annual benefit tournament and is home to the Western New Mexico University Mustang men's and women's golf teams, who play in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (NCAA Div II).

Newcomers to the course may be (pleasantly) surprised by the 17 water hazards that punctuate this parkland-flavored New Mexico course.
