The original course at Riverton CC was designed by the club's first secretary, James S. Coale and club professional John Reid. But architect Donald Ross came along some years later and redesigned the course into what it is today.

Riverton has hosted the qualifying for the U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Mid-Amateur, and a variety of GAP (Golf Association of Philadelphia) events. The course itself has eleven par-4s, four par-3s, and three par-5s.
