This links course is located on the western shore of the island of South Uist, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Old Tom Morris had laid out the original course in 1891, but the Royal Air Force flattened out part of the links in order to build a landing strip in 1936. Then in 2005, golf course consultant Gordon Irvine and architect Martin Ebert set about "uncovering" the old course.

As a result, Askernish reopened in August of 2008 on, over, and around the dunes-strewn western shore of South Uist.
