Golf was first played at Skibo Castle in 1898 when the billionaire Andrew Carnegie commissioned John Sutherland to design a 9-hole course here. But after Carnegie died in 1919, the course was left unused until 1990, when new owner Peter de Savary retained architects Donald Steel and Thomas Mackenzie to restore the original design. The resulting links-style course opened in 1992.

This course is part of a very private resort and club, but limited opportunites for visitor play are possible with advance booking.
