The Great Waters course at Reynolds Plantation opened in 1992 with a design by Jack Nicklaus, although in 2009 the course underwent a renovation / restoration of the bunkers to Nicklaus's original specifications, while the greens were changed from Penncross bent to MiniVerde Bermuda. Lake Oconee is in play on nine holes.
GolfWeek has included Great Waters on their list of "America's Best Residential Golf Courses." This was one of the courses that played host to the 41st PGA Professional National Championship in 2008.
