Desert Forest Golf Club
37207 N Mule Train Rd
Carefree, AZ 85377, United States

480.488.3527
This Robert "Red" Lawrence design opened in 1962 and is advertised as being the first "desert course" in the United States. In the intervening decades, the Sonora desert flavor has remained, although Arthur "Jack" Snyder oversaw changes to two holes in 1978. Then in 2012, the club retained David Zinkand of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw's architecture team to undertake a restoration.

Desert Forest is usually included in the lists of top 100 courses in the United States. It is a private club; visitors are permitted only as guests of members.

This is a solid, challenging course. You have to be straight, but it's fair and the greens do what you expect them to. Easily a top 3 course in the state-Golfweek has it at #1 in the state #39 in nation.
