This historic and gorgeous dunes/links course features an opening-hole tee-shot that must carry over part of the Atlantic Ocean. While Prestwick resident Charles Hunter was first retained for design purposes in 1876, the legendary Old Tom Morris was brought in in 1879 to extend the course from 12 to 18 holes. Then in 1914, five-time Open champion J.H. Taylor oversaw further changes to the course.

In addition to this highly-regarded course is The Pans, a shorter 9-hole layout. The course entrance is located off the B843. The summer walking fees for the Championship course are £62/round or £93/day; winter and shoulder-season rates are lower. On the 9-hole Pans course, the rate is £15/round.

Hole measurements are in yards.

Taken by my sons and son-in-law for my 60th and we could not have had more fun. Golf in fantastic surroundings as it was meant to be played - wind, firm fairways + wickedly undulating greens. For your bucket list!
