How good is this course? The R&A used it as an Open Championship Regional Qualifying venue from 2008 until 2012.
The course dates to 1911, when it was designed by Tom Vardon and his brother, the famous professional Harry Vardon. Following the construction of the Warwick bypass in 1972 (and the resulting destruction of two holes and the original clubhouse), Frederick Hawtree was brought in to design the replacement 11th and 12th holes. In 1994, his son, the architect Dr. Martin Hawtree was brought in to oversee reconstruction of the bunkers.
Unaccompanied visitors are welcome on weekdays only at £50. County card-holder, junior, and guest-of-member rates are available. Societies and corporate groups are also welcome with prior arrangement.

Played here in a Senior Pairs Open event. A good challenge with mature trees lining many fairways, 50+ bunkers and a river. Considering the dry summer we were allowed to place balls on closely mown areas. Very enjoyable and will return next year.
