This course opened in 1932 with nine holes designed by five-time Open champion J.H. Taylor, while the second nine opened in 1955 with work done by Leonard Fisher. The course has at least one tie to World War II; a bomb crater is in play on the 12th fairway.

Visitor walking rates are £25 weekdays and £30 on weekends. Societies are welcome with prior arrangement.
