This course opened on July 1, 1990, with a design by Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, and was named the "Best New Course" of 1991.

One other interesting fact: Both Devil's Pulpit and the co-owned Devil's Paintbrush were created by Chris Haney and Scott Abbott — the creators of the popular board game "Trivial Pursuit."
