The Royal Golf Club of Belgium was founded at the start of the 20th century, on the inititive of King Leopold II, on land surrounding the Ravenstein castle-farmhouse, which itself dates back to 1748. The 18-hole "Old" course opened in 1905 with a design by Seymore Dunn and was modified in 1928 by Tom Simpson. Second-generation British golf architect Martin Hawtree oversaw a 10-year redesign/restoration of the course beginning in 1991. The The 9-hole "New" course (P. Mackenzie Ross, 1951), like its larger twin, runs through an arboretum.

Visitors are permitted only on certain days and times, and with advance reservation.
