Pleasington Golf Club was established in 1891 with a hole cutter, hole guards, and flags by George Lowe, Sr., the professional at Lytham St. Annes. Some years later, it was extended to an 18-hole layout by Sandy Herd, a well-known professional from Saint Andrews. The course lies between the villages of Pleasington and Feniscowles, north of the River Darwen and just south of the Pleasington train station.

The summer walking rates are £42 on weekdays, then £50 on weekends and holidays. County card-holder, guest-of-member, winter, and online discounts are offered, as are memberships.

Used to play as junior and young adult when a plus handicap player. Moved abroad and play when back.

Used to have Open Qualifiers, Europe’s 2nd tier tour, national, women’s professional and so many prestigious events.

Now they have nothing other than regional amateur events.

Can see why, greens unpredictable, course made easier with trees taken out, which makes it less authentically pleasing, packed with noisy players who never let you through.

In short, a once great course made into a good municipal. Not even best in the area (Clitheroe, maybe even Wilpshire. They have kept their quality and identities).

Really sad to play now as anyone who still plays single figures still from the late 90’s to early millennium will testify. Hope they get someone in to bring back the glory days (and tournaments). Not likely though as it’s been over 10 years since it was good, at least.

Excellent course maintained to a high standard. Lots of long, challenging holes with nice tee boxes, fairways and greens. Great clubhouse with friendly staff and good food. All told, a fabulous day out (helped in no small part by perfect weather!) and well worth the trip.

Well developed and cared for course, the greens are slippery.
