Not to be confused with Caughnawaga Golf Club, which lies just to the south, this parkland-style course is located just south of the Riviere du Nord, just south of the Pont Honore Mercier. The course name comes from the Iroquois Mohawk word kahnawà:ke, meaning "village of the rapids" - a reference to the original Catholic Mohawk settlement along the Mohawk River in New York.

The course dates to 1914 and a design by brothers Albert and Charles Murray, although some modifications and infrastructure modernizations have taken place since the 1970s.
