Without question, Valderrama is one of the most famous courses in Europe. Robert Trent Jones Jr. did the original design here in 1974 when the course was known as "Sotogrande New," then another name change ("Las Aves") occurred in 1981. But it was in 1984 that Jaime Ortiz-Patiño bought the course and began making many design changes with RTJ Jr. and with architect Roger Rulewich. Among the important and notable tournaments and events Valderrama has hosted are:

Volvo Masters (1988-1996)
Ryder Cup Matches (1997)
WGC-American Express Championship (1999-2000)

Technically, this is a private members' club, but a limited number of tee-times are offered to visitors most days of the year, after 12:00 noon CET. Green fees are €300 weekdays and €320 weekends. The rate for PGA professionals is €180.

Hole measurements are in meters.

A special place. Wonderful service and superb course. Worth the money but book well in advance to avoid disappointment. Can't think of a better place to play golf....yet!

A fantastic experience from start to finish - We were met on entrance and clubs taken to driving range then onto our buggies - Course fantastic in all aspects - Tees 15 minutes apart so its like your own course - end of round clubs taken and cleaned - catering staff and shop staff brilliant - then everything loaded into transport when leaving. Truly memorable day.

Our visit took place on the 5th May. The weather was overcast with rain at the end of the round.
On arrival we had to be checked in by a guard. You cannot practice on the driving range until 45 minutes before your round commences.
The course itself was immaculate and had a special 'aura' about it. Unfortunatley the greens were not in good condition and were sandy and slow.
However the overall experience was amazing. The long par 3's are very challenging, par 5s are tempting for big hitters but you need to treat the course with respect.
At the end of the round all our clubs and shoes were cleaned by very attentive staff and the catering staff excellent.
Expensive but worth every penny

I am a member of Valderrama. Your description is wrong in 2 respects:
1. There is a large driving range
2. visitor tee times are very restricted and require advance reservation.
