The Lakes Course (1967) is the original course here; six holes were redesigned in 1998 at the same time the Oaks Course opened. Lakes is the more forgiving of the two courses and is more suitable for higher-handicap players; a smattering of trees generally permits wide-open tee shots. Holes 10, 15, and 17 holes have trouble on both sides of the fairway, while two lakes are also in play. In 2004, thirteen new tees were added on ten holes, providing more flexibility for a larger variety of golfers.

The Oaks Course (Denis Griffiths, 1998) is ideal for straight hitters. Although it is slightly longer than the Lakes Course, most of that distance is made up on two long par-5s and one long par-3. Otherwise, most holes play shorter than their counterparts on the Lakes Course. Seven water hazards and 56 bunkers produce three forced-carries, while the greens are much smaller, more undulating, and better-protected by mounds and bunkering than on the Lakes Course.

Played there this morning. I was the first one out at 6am. The course is in good shape. The greens were better then average, but not great. The tee boxes had some wear, and the fairways were in good shape. A bit of "crabgrass" here ad there, but still very nice. Clubhouse was a bit out of sorts this morning which backed up a few groups.

Nice track. For the DC area I would call it pretty average. If this were in the rural area I grew up- this would be top notch facility. I only played Lakes course- which is considered "lesser" of the two at Twin Lakes.
