Port Royal Golf Resort
10 Clubhouse Drive
Hilton Head Island, SC 29928, United States

Imagine 54 holes of legendary golf nestled within one of Hilton Head Island's most pristine plantations along the Atlantic coastline. This golf haven was designed by some of the best golf architects, such as George Cobb, Pete Dye and William Byrd, and it has been honored with the presence of some of golf's legendary players, having hosted the Champions TOUR Hilton Head Seniors International.

The new Champion Bermuda greens are small and protected by bunkers and Bermuda rough, demanding a deft touch with medium and short irons. This is a golf challenge where accuracy, not length, is paramount.

Fairways were cut very low. Greens needed some conditioning. Staff and Starter were great. Maybe revisit in early fall to re-play it again.

I played two courses: Robbers Row and Planter's Row. I prefered Robbers. They also have a Barony course, but it was reserved for members the week that we were there.

Course was very nice. Some minor leaf problems, but greens, fairways and bunkers were in good shape. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Greens were extremely slow. They had recently been sanded and our group was not told of this nor offered and opportunity to play one of their other two courses before teeing off.

This course was seedy; and I'm being generous. That's not to say that in its glory days, Planters Row was not a good course. It has grown long in the ear. I found it monotonous and not a lot of fun. My foursome was constantly in the woods; and it drove the foursome behind us insane. They finally drove into us -- poor etiquette. I doubt if I'd return again. Did, however, see the biggest alligator of the entire trip. I scored a 95 or therabouts. It didn't really matter... Normally I score in the mid-80's.

Very Tight, in fact too tight, many narrow tee's .
