MPCC is part of the rotation of courses used to hold the PGA Tour's annual AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Otherwise, it is a private country club open only to members and their invited guests.

The Shore Course is usually ranked among the top 100 courses in the United States by various golf periodicals. It opened in 1961 with a fairly basic design by Bob Baldock and Jack Neville, but underwent a major transformation by the late architect Mike Strantz in 2004.

The Dunes Course was designed mostly by Seth Raynor, but was uncompleted when he died. The design was finished by Robert Hunter and the legendary Alister Mackenzie.
